Environmental adaptations
An occupational therapist’s assessment may identify that the environment the client is living in, working in or being educated in, is a barrier to their independence and consequently adaptations or modifications are required.
These can be ‘minor’ such as adding a ramp to assist a wheelchair user to access a building or changing the lighting in a room to reduce visual over stimulation, through to ‘major’ where a person’s home may have its layout restructured, doorways widened, a lift installed and bathrooms adapted, for example.
Our occupational therapists work closely with architects and builders on major projects, to ensure adaptations are fully suitable for the needs of the client.
